SMALL GROUPS

We believe we were made for relationships and that life is better when you don’t try to do it alone.  We also believe we live in a culture that is over-committed and under-connected.  We also believe the church is called to stick together when life gets messy and to strive for authentic relationships.  We know this only happens when we walk side by side and spend time face to face.

To help, we have organized opportunities to help all of us grow deeper in our faith while also growing closer as a church family. We currently have 2 types of groups that typically last between 6-8 weeks.  Check out the options below        (click on an option to the right to go directly) to see how you and your family can get connected.

LIFE GROUPS

What will this group study?

These groups use Sermon questions that are developed by the pastor each week to help

guide the conversation.  The weekly questions will be linked to the group every week for you to check out ahead of time.  These groups tend to be more relational and allow people to really get to know each other on a more personal basis.  There is more freedom and space for more informal conversations to happen and community to grow.  We have found that building a strong community with others is one of the most important parts of being in a small group.

Where do groups meet?

Some of our groups meet in host homes around the Iron Mountain, Kingsford, and Norway areas.  While others meet at the church.  We are always looking to add more locations, so let us know if you are interested in hosting.

When do groups meet?

Our groups meet on different days and times throughout the week.  Some of the groups meet every week, while others meet every other week or even monthly.  It is really up to your group to decide what works best.  These groups are highly flexible and understanding, if you miss a week you won't be totally in the dark the following session.

What about childcare?

We leave it up to our groups to figure out what works best in terms of how they want to handle this important question.  We are committed to helping you find a group that fits your family.

Can I host a group?

We realize that schedules can be tricky to work out for families, so if you look through our group choices and can't find a good fit we would love to help you establish your own.  If that is a little overwhelming to you, please know that we would love to help equip you with all that you need.  Mostly you simply need to be willing to open up your calendar and be willing to love Jesus and people.

TOPIC DRIVEN GROUPS

What will these groups study?

The groups are designed specific topics that vary greatly.  We are working on creating groups

around topics that impact a large variety of people.  If you are looking to grow in financial wisdom, strengthening your marriage, parenting skills, communication skills, support groups,

a specific book of the Bible or Celebrate Recovery ( learn more about CR here ), or several additional options as well.  We believe that the Bible is a great resource for all of these topics and is at the center of all we do here at First Cov.

Where do these groups meet?

These groups are designed to meet mostly at the church, however, there are times when an

outside location is used.  The location will be clearly shown on the "topic description" page.

When do these groups meet?

The groups meet a variety of times throughout the week, typically for 6 - 8 weeks.   If the day of the group doesn't match your schedule, don't fret, many of these groups are offered multiple times throughout the year and often during a different time slot.

Can I lead group?

We are always looking for groups that could help someone grow in their walk.  If you are interested in leading a topical small group please email Pastor Chad to discuss the process in more detail.

How To Guide A Small Group Training

Not sure you are up to guiding a group?

Many of us feel as though we are just not equipped to lead a group.  We want our small groups to be a positive experience for everyone, including the leaders.  The most important quality of any small group leader is a love for people and a willingness to make yourself available.  We offer a course that will provide our leaders with many practical tools to help ease the feelings that so many of us have when it comes to being a "leader".  We would love to have you join us for one of leadership classes and then find just the right group to start with.  Pray about and see where God may lead you and then don't be afraid to take a step of faith.  Click the box below to get more information.
